Fleur du Cap wines continued their winning streak at this year’s prestigious Veritas Awards - South Africa’s largest wine competition – with the premier Unfiltered as well as the regular range clinching 15 medals in total - one double gold, one gold, six silver and seven bronze medals.
Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc 2005 Limited Release excelled as one of only 43 wines out of a record 1 738 entrants to be awarded a double gold medal, while Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Sémillon 2003 scooped gold.
The six silver medal achievers were the Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Chardonnay 2003, the prized Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc 2005, the unique Limited Release blend, Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Viognier Chardonnay Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2005, Fleur du Cap Noble Late Harvest 2005, Fleur du Cap Merlot 2003 and the newly released Fleur du Cap Pinotage 2003.

The double gold medallist, Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc 2005 Limited Release, is a 50/50 blend of Sauvignon Blanc grapes sourced from a dry land vineyard at Groenekloof near Darling and a terroir-specific vineyard at Lutouw – a promising new wine producing area on the banks of the Olifants River near Koekenaap in the Lutzville area near the West Coast.
“An infusion of typical Sauvignon blanc flavours such as green pepper, gooseberry, capsicum, granadilla and pineapple explodes on the nose. This well structured wine has a good balance with rich fruit flavours on the palate and a long lingering aftertaste,” is winemaker Kobus Gerber’s description of the wine.
Enjoy this full-bodied Sauvignon Blanc with green salads and seafood such as fresh oysters or serve it with a variety of white meat dishes for a delicious taste sensation. This luscious wine retails at around R90 per bottle.
