Wal-Marts International Expansion 2005

2005 was a busy year for Wal-Mart International. In December alone, the company acquired 545 new stores and gained more than 50,000 new associates in Japan and South America, capping a year of robust growth.

In December, The Seiyu Ltd., a leading Japanese retail chain with 405 stores, announced that shareholders had taken the steps necessary for Wal-Mart to acquire a majority interest in the company. In addition, three Wal-Mart executives, including two women, were elected to the Board of Directors. This will be the first time that two women have taken positions on the Seiyu board.

Six Spanish wines in the Top 100

Six Spanish labels appear among the best wines in the world. They were selected by the tasting group of Wine Spectator –its famous Top 100- among those wines with scores over 90 points. Campo Eliseo is at the top of the winners with 94 points.

Diageo puts in place programme to enable the buy back of shares in forthcoming closed period

Diageo plc has today announced that it has put in place an irrevocable, non-discretionary programme to allow the company to buy back shares during the closed period which precedes the interim results announcement on 16 February 2006. The buy-back programme during the closed period will be managed by an independent third party, which will make its trading decisions in relation to the company’s securities independently of, and uninfluenced by, the company.

Marie Brizard et Roger International acquired by Bélvédère

Following their agreement dated 23 December 2005, the shareholders of Duke Street Capital and France 2 and others, agreed the sale of these companies to Bélvédère. Duke Street Capital and France 2 owned 69.3% of the share capital of Marie Brizard & Roger International. This transaction values the shares at EUR 213.478.371, or EUR 141 per share in Marie Brizard & Roger.

Niebaum-Coppola splitting into two companies

RUTHERFORD PROPERTY TO BE NAMED RUBICON ESTATE

LARRY STONE APPOINTED GENERAL MANAGER OF RUBICON ESTATE

December 29, 2005, Rutherford, CA: Francis Ford and Eleanor Coppola will rename and refocus Niebaum-Coppola, their historic Estate in Rutherford as Rubicon Estate. “The splitting of our wine interests into two distinct elements demonstrates the commitment to make super premium Rutherford wines the only priority on Rubicon Estate’s agenda,” said Coppola. The new Estate name already appears on Rubicon Estate Cask Cabernet 2002, Rubicon Estate Cabernet Franc 2003 and Rubicon Estate Edizione Pennino Zinfandel 2003. All transition to the new Estate name will be completed by early 2006. Wines labeled Rubicon Estate are grown and vinified exclusively from the Estate’s 235 acres of certified organically grown grapes in Rutherford.

(SWS), the largest wholesaler of premium spirits and wines in the United States, as the exclusive distributor of Pernod Ricard’s full line of spirits and wine brands in Florida, Illinois, Metropolitan New York, Upstate New York, Kentucky and South Carolina. SWS also will become Pernod Ricard’s spirits and wine broker in North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia, and will continue to represent selected Pernod Ricard brands in Nevada and New Mexico.

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,

Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Community, and in particular Article 37 thereof,

Having regard to the proposal from the Commission,

Having regard to the opinion of the European Parliament,

Having regard to the opinion of the European Economic and Social Committee,

Whereas:

(1) Article 27 of Regulation (EC) No 1493/1999 [1] prohibits the overpressing of grapes and the pressing of wine lees to guard against poor quality wine, and to this end stipulates the obligation to distil marc and lees. Since the production and marketing facilities in the wine-growing areas of Slovenia and Slovakia enable the objectives of this provision to be met, the obligation for producers in these regions to distil by-products of wine-making should be replaced with the obligation to withdraw such by-products under supervision.

First Venture Signs Contract with UBC to Develop Additional Yeasts

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA - First Venture Technologies Corp. (TSX-V:FEB) announced today that it has signed a two-year service agreement with The University of British Columbia.

Under the terms of the service agreement, UBC’s Wine Research Centre will produce three additional ethyl carbamate-minimizing wine yeast strains and one ethyl carbamate-reducing sake yeast strain. Two other sake yeast strains that have already been enhanced using the company’s proprietary technology will be characterized in preparation for marketing and sales. At the completion of the service agreement, the company should have nine market-ready proprietary yeast strains for minimizing ethyl carbamate formation in alcoholic beverages.

Administrators strike a deal on Unwins

KPMG Corporate Recovery 23 December 2005

The Threshers Group has purchased 200 of the Unwins stores from administrators Blair Nimmo, Myles Halley and Jane Moriarty of KPMG Corporate Recovery for an undisclosed sum.

The deal comes less than four days after the administrators were appointed to the Unwins Group and means that these 200 stores will re-open soon after the Christmas break for trading under the Thresher brand names. Some of the staff at Unwins, who were made redundant earlier this month, will be offered positions by the new owners.

Pernod Ricard announces the disposal of Glen Grant, Old Smuggler and Braemar to Campari

Paris, 22 December 2005 -

The Pernod Ricard Group signed today two agreements with Campari for the disposal of both its Glen Grant single malt whisky (brands, inventories, distillery and other associated assets) and Old Smuggler and Braemar (brands, inventories). These transactions amount to around €115 million and €15 million respectively.

Pernod Ricard thus honours its commitment to the European Commission to dispose of Glen Grant, Old Smuggler and Braemar brands, within the framework of the Allied Domecq Plc acquisition.

89% of exhibitors at Wine For Asia 2005 clinch on-site deals

Road shows to America, Australia, South Africa and Italy planned to promote WFA 2006.

The recent Wine for Asia 2005 show at Singapore Expo was a considerable success for exhibitors. Heartened by the response, the organisers, Singex Exhibitions and Wine Resources, are already lining up road trips to America, Australia, South Africa and Italy to promote next year’s show

A post-show survey with exhibitors showed that 74% of them clinched on-site deals of US$10,000 and below and 15%, deals above US$10,000. Thirty-nine per cent of exhibitors also indicated that they are expecting to secure deals of more than US$10,000 each over the next 12 months.

WFA 05, held from 10-12 November, was the third in the series which was launched in 2003. More than 10,000 labels of wine from all over the world and 50,000 bottles were showcased at the event. The show attracted more than 12,000 visitors.

Brown-Forman Corporation Director Adopts 10B5-1 Share Trading Plan

LOUISVILLE, Ky.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dec. 21, 2005–Brown-Forman Corporation (NYSE:BFA) (NYSE:BFB) announced today that Director Dace Brown Stubbs has adopted a personal stock trading plan pursuant to guidelines specified under the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934 and the company’s policies with respect to insider sales.

Ms. Stubbs, a Brown family member, informed the company that she plans to sell up to 152,824 shares (valued at approximately $10.7 million) of Brown-Forman Class B nonvoting stock by or before January 31, 2006, as a part of a strategy to retire debt related to personal business interests. Ms. Stubbs said she “remains enthusiastic about the company’s future prospects and is a committed long-term shareholder.”

New life in oxygen debate

New research by the University of Bordeaux 2 has confirmed what winemakers have long believed — that corks allow a tiny amount of oxygen to enter a bottle of wine.

The findings reveal a less than three-fold variation in the oxygen transmission rates (OTR) of natural cork stoppers, contradicting recent claims of 1000-fold variability, according to the latest edition of Bark to Bottle, Amorim’s newsletter.

Projecting the world wine market from 2003 to 2010

Rapid New World supply increases are imposing downward pressures on prices for grape and wine producers. A per capita decrease in wine consumption in the world’s largest wine producers is being offset by consumption increases elsewhere, and growing consumer preferences for higher quality wines. We use a global wine model to project the world’s wine markets from 2003 to 2010. Our decomposition of results allows us to examine the contribution of different market forces to changes in prices and outputs relative to 2003.
