Denis Mortet Dies

On 30th January, 2006 Denis Mortet died from self-inflicted wounds. For the last fifteen years Mortet was one of the most brilliant producers of Gevrey-Chambertin. He was a perfectionist and committed idealist in the spirit of great wine-making and he symbolised the extreme passion which inspires the great winemakers earning worldwide respect for his work, the culture he represented, and the talent he expressed in interpreting his exceptional terroirs. Mortet made one realise, more than most, that wine is not just a product like any other, but a real element of civilisation. This is a heavy responsibility for anyone to carry. He leaves a wife, son and daughter — everyone at Wine Industry Report extends their deepest sympathy and condolences.
