Bonhams has announced that Richard Harvey, MW, has been appointed European Head of Wine.
Richard joined Bonhams as a consultant in 1997 following an established career in the wine trade. He has worked with critically acclaimed chef, Prue Leith and at the Grant’s of St. James’s School of Wine as well as establishing his own company ‘Richard Harvey Wines.’ In recent years Richard has overseen Bonhams’ most lucrative wine sales including the September 27 2005 auction, which achieved a total of £391,850.
Anthony Barne, MW, will continue to support the wine department focusing on the UK market, and Rebecca Russell will take on the new role of Junior Specialist, having completed the Diploma in Wine and Spirits at the Wine Spirits Education Trust. In conjunction with this qualification Rebecca has been awarded the Rafael Balao Lustau Memorial Trophy in association with Emilio Lustau SA and Michael Hall Wines and will be visiting Jerez to learn more about the sherry wines of the region.
Bonhams’ UK Wine Department is a key member of an international organisation which includes Bonhams and Butterfields in the USA. Both offices offer free advice on buying and selling wines at auction and provide insurance and probate valuations. Holding six sales a year in London and between six and eight in San Francisco and LA, Bonhams offer a wide selection of rare European and highly-collectible Californian vintages.
