Fortune Brands, Inc., (NYSE: FO), a leading consumer brands company, today reported record results for the first quarter of 2006. Earnings per share from continuing operations rose 21%, benefiting from strong organic sales gains, the addition and growth of newly acquired spirits and wine brands, and a net gain from one-time items. Double-digit sales growth for brands including Moen, Titleist, Aristokraft, Omega, Therma-Tru, Master Lock, Jim Beam and Maker’s Mark fueled share gains and strong top-line growth.

Fresh 2005 Bordeaux primeur coincide with a shift away from the Maryland style

‘All happy families are alike, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way’, reads the opening line of Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. And the same might be said of overripe wines, writes Sophie Kevany from Bordeaux.
‘All ripe wines tend to taste the same, and there’s a problem of identity. Identity is strongest where the wines are ripe but not too ripe,’ said revered Bordeaux oenologue, Denis Dubourdieu, speaking after a conference given during primeur week on the 2005 Bordeaux vintage. ‘Ripe but not green, ripe but not cooked,’ advises Dubourdieu.

The use of “Temecula” as an approved viticultural

On April 19, 2004, the Final Rule renaming the approved domestic “Temecula” viticultural area to “Temecula Valley” viticultural area was published in the Federal Register. The effective date for the name change was June 18, 2004.
Approved Certificates of Label Approval (COLAs) using the formerly approved AVA name “Temecula” as an appellation on the labels could continue until June, 19, 2006.
