Wine industry veteran Bob Steinhauer has been appointed manager of administration of the American Vineyard Foundation (AVF) by the AVF Board of Directors, in a reorganization of the AVF’s programs and responsibilities. He will handle day-to-day activities in a transitional period.
The roles and responsibilities of the executive director, previously held by Kim Waddell, have been absorbed in this transition by Steinhauer, as well as independent contractors and industry leaders who serve on AVF’s Executive Committee and Board. Hal Huffsmith of Trinchero Family Estates has been elected chairman, replacing Art Caputi who recently moved to Washington state.
“We greatly appreciate the contributions which Kim and Art have made to the Foundation, and we’re looking forward to their continued contributions in our new format,” Steinhauer said. In appointing Steinhauer, the Board said “We are fortunate to have Bob’s knowledge, skill, reputation and desire on board through this transition period.”
Jerry Lohr, J. Lohr Winery is replacing Art Caputi on the AVF’s Executive Committee. Caputi continues as a Board member and, in honor of his years of service, has been named AVF chairman emeritus.
Established in 1978 to raise funds for research in viticulture and enology, the AVF is a wine-industry sponsored non-profit organization funded by growers and vintners that since its founding has funded over $17 million in wine and grape related research.
