The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) published two final rules in the Federal Register establishing the Chehalem Mountains and Shawnee Hills viticultural areas.
Treasury Decision TTB-56, establishes the 68,265-acre Chehalem Mountains viticultural
area in Clackamas, Yamhill, and Washington Counties, Oregon. This new viticultural
area is entirely within the existing Willamette Valley viticultural area.
Treasury Decision TTB-57, establishes the Shawnee Hills viticultural area in the Shawnee
National Forest region of southern Illinois.
TTB designates viticultural areas to allow vintners to better describe the origin of their
wines and to allow consumers to better identify wines they may purchase. Both final rules become effective December 27, 2006.
