2006 should be the second best year ever for sales of Cognac after 1989 (157.4 million bottles shipped) : the figure was 150 million bottles shipped in the 12 months to the end of October.
Overall Cognac sales are up by 12.2% over last year. Martell cognac, with 1.7 million cases, is close behind Rémy-Martin, the second largest firm in the sector after Hennessy : 4 million cases
Three members of the BNIC cognac professional trade organization are retiring : Jacky Ferrand (viticulture department), Jean-Marie Bremaud (DHR) and Roger Cantagrel (viticultural station).
