Hamilton Russell Vineyards one of Saveur magazine’s 100 Best Things of the year

In their annual Saveur 100 in the February 2007 issue of top US gourmet magazine - Saveur - Hamilton Russell Vineyards was included as one of their best things of the year. Their list - the 9th so far - includes foods, restaurants, drinks, people, places and “things” and “celebrates the things that make our lives richer”.

Hamilton Russell Vineyards was one of only two wines on the list (the other was a vermouth, Noilly Prat) and was listed under the heading “Most Burgundian Winery Outside Burgundy”

Michael Steinberger wrote as follows: “That new-world wines have old-world character is a cliché we’d rather not use, but in the case of South Africa’s Hamilton Russell Vineyards, the description couldn’t be more apt. Established in the 1980’s, Hamilton Russell specializes in pinot noir and chardonnay and produces wines with Burgundian elegance and earthiness. We love the pinot noir for its aromatics, the chardonnay for its minerality. Both make a persuasive case for South Africa’s winemaking potential.”
