The Spanish Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food ordered the official publication of the bylaws to ensure national, European and international protection.
The Spanish Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) ordered the official publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE) of a ministerial order modifying the bylaws that govern DO Ribera del Duero and its Regulating Council. The bylaws had previously been adopted by the Castilla y León regional government’s Agriculture and Livestock Department on 17 October 2006 and published in the Official Gazette of Castilla y León (BOCYL), on 25 October.
The Spanish Vine and Wine Act, under section 32, stipulates that the specific regulations applicable to quality wine produced in specific regions must be published in the Official Gazette, once adopted by the regional government. Publication ensures protection on a national, European and international level.
The changes adopted by the Agriculture and Livestock Department affect Subsections 2 and 3 of Section 11 of the bylaws governing the “Ribera del Duero” Designation of Origin and its Regulating Council. The regulations specify the procedures that must be met to apply for the use of traditional “Crianza”, “Reserva” and “Gran Reserva” designations.
