The United States Trade Representative concluded historic Free Trade Agreement negotiations with Korea on April 1, 2007, which will result in eventual elimination of tariffs and other barriers to trade in most goods and services. Wine and more than half (or $1.5 billion) of current U.S. farm exports to Korea will become duty-free immediately upon ratification by both countries. The agreement now goes to the U.S. Congress for approval and the President’s signature.

O’Brien Cellars announced the launch of Wine for Hope, an online wine retail store designed to help raise funds for Academy of Friends, an organization dedicated to raising funds granted to a diverse set of HIV/AIDS direct care and prevention education agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area. Wine for Hope automatically donates 20% of all sales to Academy of Friends.
The 2007 Australian winegrape harvest is all but complete with a harvest of 1.34 million tonnes expected, the smallest since 2000, according to the April Harvest Update released today by the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation.
First Venture Technologies Corp. (TSX-V: FEB) reports that The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (”IARC”) has reclassified ethyl carbamate (urethane) and is now including it as a Group 2A carcinogen - probably carcinogenic to humans. Contaminants similarly classified as Group 2A carcinogens include acrylamide (found in many snack foods), anabolic steroids, PCB’s, diesel engine exhaust, lead-based compounds like arsenic and mercury, and nitrogen mustard
(mustard gas). Ethyl carbamate had previously been listed as a 2B - possible carcinogen to humans.

Snows Lake Vineyard, a premier vineyard in the Red Hills Lake County AVA, announced it has released a limited bottling of two wines under its own label: 2004 Snows Lake One, a Cabernet Sauvignon; and 2004 Snows Lake Two, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc blend. Total
production of these wines is under 250 cases each.
