Practically all wineries from Extremadura who bottle their own wines were present at the international tasting
A total 55 importers from 15 countries took part in an international wine tasting organised by Fomento de Mercados and the Extremadura Regional Government within the 7th Wine and Olive Exhibition held in the town of Almendralejo. The event’s aim was to showcase wines from Extramadura both nationally and abroad.
Portugal was the country with the highest representation, at 15, followed by Russia with six and the US, represented by five importers. There were also dealers from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania, where demand for Spanish wines is growing fast, as well as Brazil, Switzerland and Thailand, who came for the first time. Other countries that took part in the international event were Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, Poland and Ireland.
A total of 30 wineries from Extremadura, practically all of those who bottle their own wines, were represented at the tasting. 90 wines and cavas were showcased in what the organisers rated as a resounding success.
After the tasting, importers were free to visit the Exhibition, where they were able to network with the exhibiting wineries. Later, they were given a guided tour of local wineries and vineyards, hosted by a team of specialists from the DO Ribera del Guadiana appellation.
