First Venture reports product trials in Canada

First Venture Technologies Corp. (TSX-V:FEB) reports that the company’s proprietary
yeasts are being trialed by the Canadian wine industry.

“Having recently received Canadian government approval for the
manufacture and use of our ethyl carbamate minimizing yeast in Canada,
we are very pleased to have the Canadian wine industry’s support to
trial our products,” said Andy Starr, Director of Marketing and
Business Development of First Venture Yeast Products, Inc., a wholly
owned subsidiary of First Venture Technologies Corp.

It is expected that these trials will provide similar fermentation and
wine product results as determined in lab trials conducted at the Wine
Research Centre at The University of British Columbia, as well as
commercial trials run this past crush in the USA. The company’s
commercial trial partners seek to confirm that wines produced with
First Venture’s proprietary yeasts do not differ in terms of sensory
attributes and fermentation kinetics from wines produced with
comparative commercial yeast strains.

“It is gratifying that Canadian wine producers recognize the benefits
that our proprietary yeasts can provide in minimizing an ethyl
carbamate contaminant occurrence in their wine products, and we are
pleased to be able to accommodate their requests for product trials,”
added Mr. Starr. “As with inquiries that we are receiving from wine and
spirits producers from other parts of the world, their interest is made
even more pertinent by the recent news of the World Health
Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer’s
reclassification of ethyl carbamate from a Group 2B possible human
carcinogen now to a Group 2A probable human carcinogen.”

First Venture is expanding its selection of proprietary yeast strains
from which producers of wine and other food and beverage products may
choose based on their product and manufacturing preferences. Product
applications are underway with Canadian federal government agencies for
manufacturing and usage approvals in Canada for a number of additional
ethyl carbamate yeast strains.
