Vinexpo will be holding its 14th celebration in 2007 and Christie’s auction house will auction a fine selection of claret, burgundy and wines from the Rhône Valley on June 21. Christie’s first sale at Vinexpo took place in 1987. Since its creation in 1981, Vinexpo has become the most influential meeting place for wine lovers from around the world.
CLARET
Among the sale lots, they will offer an important collection of wines, some of which are reaching perfect maturity, such as Château Lafite-Rothschild 1982 (estimate: €4,000-5.000 for 5 bottles), Pétrus 1982 and 1988 (respectively €10,000-14,000 for 5 bottles and €3,600-4,000 for 6 bottles), and Château Cheval-Blanc 1985 and 1995 (respectively: €3,000-3,600 for 12 bottles and €2,000-2,400 for 12 bottles).
They will also offer an exceptional ensemble of Château Beychevelle including many large formats encompassing six decades of production, including 3 magnums of 1937 (estimate:
€1,100-1400), 2 magnums of 1945 (estimate: €1,200-1,600), 3 double-magnums of 1959 (estimate: €1,500-2,000), one jeroboam of 1975 (estimate: €280-360) and 12 bottles from the 1982 vintage (estimate: €1,200-1,600).
They are also pleased to offer another large collection of Grands Crus from the fabulous cellar of a French collector. Highlights include fine wines from the 1982 vintage with Château
Mouton-Rothschild (estimate: €7,000-9,000 for 11 bottles), as well as eleven different vintages of Pétrus, offered in original wooden cases, featuring wines from the renowned 1989 and 1990 vintages (estimate: €22,000-26,000 for 12 bottles of 1989 and €12,000-16,000 for 6 bottles from the 1990 vintage).
Other exceptional lots include rare magnums of Château Lafleur-Pétrus 1943 and 1945 (estimate: €6,000-8,000 per magnum 1943 and €10,000-15,000 per magnum 1945), Château
Haut-Brion 1947 (estimate: €1,200-1,600 per magnum), Château Mouton-Rothschild 1949 (estimate: €3,000-4,000 per magnum), Château Lafite-Rothschild 1982 (estimate: €1,700-2000 per magnum).
SAUTERNES
Rare Château d’Yquem spanning many vintages of the 20th century and beyond will be also offered including exceptional bottles from the 1893 vintage (estimate: €2,200-2,600 per
bottle), from the 1945 vintage (estimate: €950-1,200 per bottle) and a very rare magnum from the 1967 vintage (estimate: €1,300-1,700 per magnum).
BURGUNDY
Rare single bottle lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti are also on offer, notably Richebourg 1937 (estimate: €2,400-3,000 per bottle), Romanée-Conti 1962 (estimate: €3,000-4,000 per bottle), Romanée-Conti 1976 (estimate: €2,200-2,600 per bottle), La Tâche 1978 (estimate: €1,600-2,000 per bottle), Romanée-Conti 1981 (estimate: €3,000-4,000 per bottle) and a magnum of La Tâche 1991 (estimate: €2,800-3,200 per magnum).
RHÔNE
Young Rhône wines from the best producers, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cuvée da Capo, Domaine du Pégaü 2000 (estimate: €1,100-1,400 for 6 bottles).
Champagne
Rare Champagne from Krug in excellent condition is presented including 6 magnums from the 1973 vintage (estimate: €4,000-4,500) and from the 1976 vintage, 5 bottles (estimate: €2,200-2,600).
The sale also features many wines from other countries, from Italy, Solaia 2000 (estimate: €450-550 for 6 bottles) and from Portugal, Dow 1960 (estimate: €80-100 euros for 2 bottles).
