The Institute recognises that economic factors restrict the potential of many South Africans, who would otherwise be excellent candidates for the Master of Wine Education Programme and Examination are inviting applicants for the 2008 Chairman’s Scholarship.
This scholarship is awarded annually at the discretion of the Chairman of the Institute, and will provide the successful candidate with:
* three years Education Programme fees;
* two attempts at the exam; and
* two tasting cases of wine per annum, delivered to the winner’s home.
Joanna Locke MW, Chairman said: “I am delighted to invite applicants for the second time during my chairmanship for this most generous scholarship. I would welcome talented South Africans with an enormous enthusiasm for the wine industry and a firm commitment to becoming a Master of Wine.”
Lynne Sherriff MW said: “A proud South African myself, I am thrilled that the Institute is able to offer this scholarship for the third year. I believe that it is a rare opportunity for the South African wine industry to benefit from the highest level of continued professional development through the Institute’s pursuit of excellence in wine education globally.”

Application for the scholarship will be in the form of a letter to the Chairman of the Institute setting out the reasons for applying, and for the candidate’s interest in the MW Education Programme. The deadline for applications is 17th September 2007.
