Small Winery Label Scoops Top Sauvignon Medal
The recently announced 2007 Catador Grand Hyatt Wine Awards has highlighted some exciting new winery successes, included a coveted top medal for Sauvignon Blanc, awarded to Casablanca Valley producer William Cole Winery. William Cole Casablanca Mirador Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2007 was the only Sauvignon Blanc awarded the Gran Medalla de Oro (Grand Gold Medal), which is the highest achievement that any winery can get in this the most prestigious of competitions in Chile.
The competition took place in July in Santiago, with a host of international judges, including British wine writer Christine Austin.
The William Cole winery is based in the Casablanca Valley, and enjoys a reputation for top quality cooler climate wines from classic varieties, both red and white. The 130 hectare vineyard and winery were set up by US businessman William Cole, who now devotes his time to producing top-quality single varietal wines. Wine production is overseen by international winemaker, New Zealander Peter Mackey, who works in partnership with the resident winemaking team, producing the fresh styles of the Casablanca region.

The 2007 vintage is not yet available in the UK, so will not be on tasting at the forthcoming Wines of Chile tastings - but samples of this and the rest of the William Cole range are available on request.
