German Vintage 2007 is “superb”

As this year’s grape harvest comes to an end, wine-growers in all 13 German wine-growing regions are thoroughly satisfied. Monika Reule, managing director of the Geman Wine Institute/Mainz, is glad that “everything went well this year” and added that “not only are this year’s qualities above average, but also the quantities harvested – currently estimated at 10.5 to 11 million hectoliters – are reason to be pleased, not least because this will enable us to better meet the increased demand for German wines at home and abroad than was possible the past year.”

At a masterclass led by Peter McCombie MW during the first ever major UK tasting of Prosecco DOC organised by the Prosecco DOC di Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Consortium at the IOD on Monday 15th October, it was revealed that research and tastings conducted independently by both himself and renowned sommelier and Group Wine Buyer for Hakkasan Restaurant Christine Parkinson confirmed that agents and on and off trade outlets should be offering their customers at least two different Proseccos on their lists – one to be used as a mixer for the extremely popular Bellini cocktail, and one that is meant to be appreciated on its own, either as an aperitif or with food.
