At today’s Royal Adelaide Wine Show, Adelaide Hills winery Starvedog Lane, has won one of Australia’s most prestigious wine awards – the Max Schubert Trophy.

The winning wine – 2004 Starvedog Lane Shiraz Viognier – was the stand out of the show, following the win with another two Trophies.

In fact, Starvedog Lane heavily dominated the awards, with winemaker Glenn Barry spending most of his time at the podium collecting six of the 24 trophies, concluding the ceremony with his own honorary trophy for winemaker of the show.

Glenn Barry was typically modest in his acceptance speech, not forgetting to mention the entire Starvedog team.

“It’s wonderful to be recognised in such a big way at this important national wine show. At Starvedog Lane, we’ve always believed in the superior quality of our wines, it’s great to reinforce that we’re not alone.”

Whilst Starvedog Lane pokes fun at traditional attitudes in the wine industry, one thing that will never be a laughing matter is the importance of the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills to Starvedog’s success.
