Brown-Forman announces $200million Share Repurchase Plan

Brown-Forman Corporation (NYSE:BFB)(NYSE:BFA) announced that its Board of Directors has authorized the repurchase of up to $200 million of outstanding Class A and Class B common stock over the next 12 months, subject to market conditions. Under this plan, the company can repurchase shares from time to time for cash in open market purchases, block transactions, and privately negotiated transactions in accordance with applicable federal securities laws. This share repurchase program may be modified, suspended, terminated, or extended by the company at any time without prior notice.

Wine reform: Agriculture Committee compromises on sensitive issues

In its draft report on the reform of the wine sector, adopted on Wednesday, the EP Agriculture Committee voted against the automatic liberalisation of planting rights in 2014 and the transfer of funding to rural development. The committee voted in favour of a grubbing up campaign limited to three years, the retention of sugaring as well as aid for grape must, increased sales promotion, more wide-ranging national budgetary envelopes and stricter rules for designations and labelling.

Brown-Forman declares increased quarterly cash dividend

Brown-Forman (NYSE:BFB)(NYSE:BFA) has announced that its Board of Directors increased the quarterly cash dividend on Class A and Class B Common Stock 12.4% from $0.3025 cents to $0.34 cents per share. As a result, the indicated annual cash dividend will rise from $1.21 per share to $1.36 per share.

Buoyant market
In Q3 2007, the BOIZEL CHANOINE CHAMPAGNE Group generated 64.79 million euros in consolidated revenues, up 18.9% on the 54.51 million euros recorded in Q3 2006. Over the first nine months of 2007, revenues totaled 205.04 million euros, compared with 164.16 million euros for the same period in 2006, although last year did not factor in the first quarter for the Maison BURTIN and Champagne LANSON subsidiaries, since they were acquired at the end of March 2006.

Constellation Brands to buy Fortune Brands’ U.S. wine business

Constellation Brands, Inc. (NYSE: STZ, ASX: CBR) and Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE: FO) today announced that they have entered into an agreement under which Constellation will acquire Fortune’s U.S. wine business for $885 million, subject to post-closing adjustments. The transaction is expected to close by Dec. 31, 2007.
