Cava represents a third of total sparkling wine sales in the Scandinavian country
Sparkling wine sales increased during the first six months of the year according to a press release from the Norwegian State-owned wine monopoly for alcohol beverage retail, Vinmonopolet. Within this category they highlighted the positive performance of Spanish wines, especially cava.
Taking into account Vinmonopolet figures, 903,181 litres of sparkling wine were sold up to July 2007, representing an increase of 23.4 percent with respect to the same period last year.
The main driver behind this growth was Spanish cava, which currently represents more than a third of all the sparkling wine sales in Norway, with sales of 357,597 litres within the stated time period. This figure is twice the French champagne sales figure.
