Omaka Springs Estates - new launches in the UK

Omaka Springs Estates launches 2007 Pinot Gris, the new Omaka Springs Olive Oil 07, presentation gift boxes of the Olive Oil and the Sauvignon Blanc 07, and new vintages of their Pinot Noir and Blue Gold Medal winning Sauvignon Blancs at upcoming NZ Annual Trade Tasting (Table 43)

Omaka Springs Estates, the family owned and run winery in Marlborough, New Zealand will launch their much anticipated and already allocated 2007 Pinot Gris (RSP 8.99) as well as their 2007 estate bottled olive oil, and gift packs of their olive oil and award-winning Sauvignon Blanc 07 (RSP 14.99) for the first time at the upcoming NZ Annual Trade Tasting. The gift boxed olive oil and Sauvignon is designed to capitalise on Christmas and special occasion sales. In addition, Omaka Springs will preview their 2007 Blue Gold medal winning Falvey’s Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc (RSP £9.99), 2007 Sauvignon Blanc (RSP £8.99), Blue Gold medal winning 2006 Sauvignon Blanc (RSP £8.99), and 2006 Pinot Noir (RSP £9.99).

The Omaka Springs wines are distributed in the UK exclusively to the on-trade, wholesale & independent retail sectors by New World specialist importer Discovery Wines. Key stockists for the award-winning wines are Roberts & Speight, Peckhams, Le Riches Stores, Robinsons, Just Great Wine, Abbey Wines, Henderson Wines, T Wright, York Wines, Sandhams Wines, East Coast Wines, Cellar 28, and Classic Wines Belfast.

Discovery Wines Founder Antony McIndoe comments: “New Zealand is performing very well (outperforming both Australia & South Africa in terms of percentage growth) with our Omaka Springs’ sales up 21% on last year. We have gained a significant amount of new distribution in the Independent and on trade sectors, which has been largely driven by the points of difference offered by the Pinot Gris and Olive Oil and gift packs.”

Omaka Springs grow all of their own grapes and turn them into award-winning wines with the help of head winemaker Ian Marchant at their on-site winery, with the single goal of making “only high quality wines at affordable prices.” Owned by Geoff and Robina Jensen, the property features 178 acres of vineyards that lie across the Omaka Valley in the heart of Marlborough’s wine growing area. The first vines were planted in 1989 and further developed when Omaka Springs Estates were established in 1992.

Geoff and Robina Jensen were also amongst the pioneers of the New Zealand olive industry when they established Omaka Springs Estates. Included on their land is one of the country’s largest commercial olive groves, consisting of over 2500 trees and 23 different varieties of high quality olives that are cold processed to produce fine extra virgin olive oil.
