34 of the UK’s leading independent retailers will be pouring a selection of Chianti Classico wines free of charge
in-store for their customers during the weekend of 26-27 January as part of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico’s
Black Rooster Wines tasting weekend.
UK wine lovers will be able to taste 3 to 4 different Chianti Classicos and/or Reservas in each store, and give
their feedback on the wines as well as find out more about this classic Italian region in the heart of Tuscany and its
wines from staff who will all have received a full information and promotional pack from the Consorzio.
Independent retailers taking part in the tasting weekend, which is being run in association with Wine & Spirit
magazine, include Jeroboams, The Secret Cellar, Philglas & Swiggot and Thos Peatling Fine Wines. All retailers will be
asked for their feedback on the tasting and on their Chianti Classico sales in general, which will provide the Consorzio
with useful research on this sector. Several retailers will also be invited to participate in a round table discussion
with a select group of leading members of the wine trade and press at the Chianti Classico Collection (formerly Anteprima
– a well-established two day event of tastings and presentations on Chianti Classico) in Florence on Wednesday
20 February.
Marco Pallanti, President of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico says “We are delighted to be able to support this
sector of the UK off-trade which is very important for Chianti Classico by offering this tasting weekend and to
have attracted the support of such a prestigious group of independent retailers. Chianti Classico has evolved
considerably over recent years and we are keen to increase awareness of what our wines have to offer both amongst
consumers and independent retailers.”
For stores that are not open on Sunday, the tasting will take place on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 January
