Premium Barossa based producer, Thorn Clarke, has moved its U.K distribution to Alliance Wine, current IWC Australian Specialist Merchant of the Year.
Laurent Perrier, the previous distributor, decided to end all distribution of still wines in late 2007 and since then Thorn Clarke has worked carefully to find the best partner with which to increase their UK sales.
“Alliance Wine emerged as the front runner due to their impressive track record of building premium Australian brands across a wide range of distribution channels in the UK” explained Marketing Manager Steve Machin.
Thorn Clarke wines are sourced from four diverse vineyard sites in the Barossa including two in the higher altitude, cooler climate sub region of Eden Valley and have, since 2002, very quickly built up a reputation for excellent quality and great value for money. Though a young brand, the family has been involved in grape growing in the Barossa since the 19th century and as such has one of the most credible and long-standing histories in the industry. Today, it is still a family run, family owned estate with wonderful resources to enable it to withstand the currently challenging environment for Australian wine.
Alliance’s Wine Development Director, Giles Cooke MW said: “Thorn Clarke provides us with top quality wines at critical price points for premium Barossa wines. Due to their cooler climate Eden vineyards they have the ability to produce superb Riesling and Pinot Gris whilst giving us benchmark Barossa Shiraz with elegance and structure all at a sustainably competitive price. In a competitive market, the values of sustainability, quality versus price and brand credibility are crucial to our buyers”
Thorn-Clarke produces wines at four different price levels under the brand names Milton Park, Terra Barossa, Shotfire and it’s flagship wine William Randell.
