There are two current wine scandals which have recently broken in Italy. One concerns adulterated wine at the cheap end of the market and the other menaces one of the most best known regions of Italy - Brunello del Montalcino.
At this stage the Italian government has given assurances to the EU that there are no dangers to the public health despite finding a cocktail of harmful substances in some of the wines being sold around the country.
