Award-winning Adelaide Hills boutique winery, Abbey Rock Wines, is for sale after being placed into voluntary administration at the request of its directors.
Mr Austin Taylor, of Meertens Chartered Accountants, has been appointed Voluntary Administrator to the Company following the breakdown of a business agreement in the United States.
“Abbey Rock Wines will carry on business operations while we undertake the sale process,” Mr Taylor said.
“We are working closely with the Company’s directors to maintain the integrity of their business operations, and as quickly as possible return to their high-potential growth path.”
Abbey Rock Wines has its cellar door at Balhannah, on the main Onkaparinga tourist drive route. This 1.65 acre property is a popular spot for visitors where the on-site licensing for 300 people is believed to be the largest in the Hills area.
The assets of Abbey Rock being offered for sale include its Balhannah headquarters, including production centre, offices and plant and equipment, as well as existing wine stocks estimated to be worth about $1 million.
Abbey Rock Wines has produced a number of multi award-winning wines under its premium Abbey Rock and high-value Kirkstone labels.
Its Abbey Rock Coonawarra Riesling and Coonawarra Cabernet Merlot and its Hahndorf Rise Pinot Noir wines have scooped Gold Medals at European Wine Challenge events over the past three years.
The Company has also developed a network of distribution channels into western Europe, Asia, North America, and Canada.
