Another three Spanish wines won Silver Medals in wine competition held within framework of the fair

The Ribera del Duero bodega, Emilio Moro was the only Spanish winery to have one of its wines, ‘Malleolus 2006’, acknowledged with a Trophy in the Wine Style Asia Awards 2009 competition, held within the framework of the Wine for Asia fair, from 22nd to 24th October in Singapore. In this edition, only 8 wines were honoured with the awards’ maximum accolade.

In addition, Spanish wines won 3 Silver Medals and 7 Bronze Medals at the competition, which is a showcase for high profile wines and also a bench mark for importers and retails from the region. In this 6th edition of the Wine Style Asia Awards (WSAA), a total of 8 Trophies were awarded, together with 27 Gold-Platinum Medals, 2 Gold Medals, 99 Silver Medals, and 145 Bronze Medals.

The Silver Medal winners included a wine under DO Méntrida (‘Arrayan Premium 2004’), one under DO Montsant (‘Acustic Brao 2006’), and one under QDO Rioja (‘Fos Crianza 2006’). While the seven Bronze Medals went to two whites under DO Rueda (‘Blanco Nieva 2008’ and ‘Blanco Nieva Sauvignon 2008’), a cava (‘Emendis Imum 2007’), and reds under DO Montsant (‘Acustic 2006’), DO Campo de Borja (‘Borsao Crianza Seleccion 2006’), DO Ribera del Duero (‘Finca Resalso 2007’), and QDO Rioja (‘Nerba-Reserva 2001’).

The jury in this 6th edition of Wine Style Asia Awards was headed by John Chua, the veteran international wine judge, and among the panellists were names such as Kym Milne and Lisa Perotti-Brown, both Masters of Wine; Subhash Arora, chairman of the Delhi Wine Club; Fumiko Arisaka, from Japan; Tran Ngoc Chau, from Vietnam; Chinese wine writer Susie Wu, and the chief sommeliers from The St Regis Singapore and Hilton Kuala Lumpur Hotels.

The Wine for Asia annual international fair is targeted at wine producers who want to carve a niche for their products on the Singapore market. It attracts visitors as well as retailers and professionals from the hospitality industry, and has become one of the most comprehensive fairs in Asia.
