Spain becomes top wine imported to Russia

Share of wine imports from Spain hit 21.8 percent in Q1 2007


In the period from January to March 2007, Spain took the lead in wine exports to Russia, according to a statement released by the National Alcohol Association (NAA). During this period, Russia imported 141 m litres of wine, 61 percent up on the previous quarter. This volume of exports is worth € 120.5 m.

Spain’s share of the Russian import market reached 21.8 percent. Other suppliers were France, at 15.9 percent; Germany, at 14 percent; Italy, at 6.6 percent and Chile, at 5.7 percent.

According to data provided by the Association, imports of high-grade alcoholic products reached 39 m litres, a figure that stands for a 25.8 percent increase, for a total value of € 173.4 m.
