Profit before tax increased by 14.1% to £16.2m and total Group sales were up 11.0% to £191.2m with like for like UK sales growing 4.9%.
Extract: “We have seen a good increase in our customer base. The number of customers, who have made purchases in the last twelve months, is up by 7% to over 400,000. The average bottle price of still wine purchased at Majestic has increased to £5.75 from £5.59 and the average spend per transaction has risen to £123 from £118 last year.
Sales growth was particularly strong in wines from Bordeaux, Loire, Spain, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina. Sales of Champagne and rosé wine also continued to show very good growth. Sales of fine wine (still wine priced at £20 and above) grew well
increasing 25% and now accounting for 3.6% of UK retail sales. Currently 28 stores have dedicated fine wine sales areas and by
Christmas we expect to have extended this to 40.”
