Thanks to a press release which was recently mailed to us we also heard of something rather engaging – a ‘cult wine’ tasting room.
Here is the press release and a note on the above follow:
2003 Vintage of Uvada Merlot is Released
St. Helena, CA (May 6, 2008) – Uvada wines announced today the release of its 2003 vintage Napa Valley Merlot. Created to reflect the harmonious and elegant winemaking style of Old World vintners, the wine comes to market with nearly three years’ bottle age and is a fine expression of its origins in the Oakville and Yountville districts of Napa Valley.
Uvada means “bountiful harvest” in Spanish. The 2003 vintage is indeed bountiful in ripe fruit flavors but is at the same time a wine of balance and finesse.
The label art – taken from a Spanish commercial poster from the late art deco period – perfectly captures the abundant richness and elegance of the wine.
Of the 2003 vintage, winemaker John McKay notes, “This wine has complex aromas of black cherries, toasty oak, and mature fruit that beg to be tasted. Rich flavors of ripe black fruit and sweet vanilla beans fulfill the expectations.” The wine is a blend of 84% Merlot from the Oakville AVA and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Yountville AVA.
Only 747 cases of Uvada Merlot 2003 were produced. The suggested retail price of the wine is $30.00. It can be purchased directly from Uvada Wines at UvadaWines.com, and is also available at the Cult Wine Central tasting room of the Napa Wine Company in Oakville.
