Argentine restaurant specialist, Gaucho, which lists 199 Argentine wines, has grown its own label range to include nine specially produced wines.
The Terruño range, Terruño being the Spanish translation of ‘terroir’, has been put together by Gaucho Director of Wines, Phil Crozier to represent all of the major grape varieties in Argentina. The wines have been developed to show the special characteristics of each grape variety, made by the best winemaker, from the ‘terroir’ in which they are best. The Terruño range is sold exclusively by Gaucho both in their restaurants and in their Cavas de Gaucho, wine boutique.
The Terruño range includes; Torrontes from Cafayate in Salta (1750m); Chardonnay from Rio Negro in Patagonia (300m); Voignier from Lujan de Cuyo in Mendoza (850m); Bonarda from Santa Rosa in Mendoza (680m); Cabernet Sauvignon from Lujan de Cuyo in Mendoza (990m); Malbec from Lujan de Cuyo in Mendoza; Tempranillo from Barrancas Maipu in Mendoza; Merlot Malbec from Lujan de Cuyo / Uco Valley in Mendoza (900-1050m); Cabernet Sauvignon/Malbec from Lunlunta (860m)/Agrelo (940m) and Tupungato (1402m).
Phil Crozier, Gaucho’s Director of Wines says;
“We offer our guests 199 wines from Argentina. In developing the Terruno range, it has been vital to ensure that we highlight the diversity of flavours, which a different ‘terroir’ brings to each variety. This is why we include the height at which all the grapes have been grown on our wine menu. We also believe that the use of oak should be kept to a minimum, allowing guests to appreciate the true magic that warm days, cool nights and an abundance of sunshine at altitude can bring to these grape varieties.
“The Argentines are known for their pride, their passion and their individuality as shown by their wines: And we want to highlight Argentina’s own champion grape varieties including Torrontes, Bonarda and Malbec.”
Gaucho’s Terruño range is available in three sizes: Glass (125ml), Pot (500ml) or bottle (750ml). All Gaucho’s wine are also available to take home from their own Wine boutique, Cavas de Gaucho 25, Swallow Street, Piccadilly.
