In today’s launch of The Big Red Wine Book 2009/10, authors Campbell Mattinson and Gary Walsh have awarded the 2007 Starvedog Lane Shiraz Viognier Red Wine of the Year.

“It announced itself as the wine of the year the instant we tasted it. We wanted a red that best captured the essence of the year – a wine that combined both quality and value better than any other. Sure, we rated a few reds higher, but this Adelaide Hills beauty slays them for value and, more simply, tastes fantastic. Even better, it should be widely available. It has so many things going for it: complexity, charm, moderate alcohol and a vast array of flavours. It is a beautiful wine, full of X-factor. Welcome to centre-stage, Starvedog Lane – you deserve it.” Campbell Mattinson and Gary Walsh.

This is fantastic recognition for Starvedog Lane and one of many accolades it has received over the last few years, cementing its reputation as a producer of exceptional quality Adelaide Hills wines. As recently as February this year, the same wine collected the seventh capital city trophy for Starvedog Lane’s outstanding Shiraz Viognier blend in Sydney. And only last month Starvedog Lane winemaker Glenn Barry was nominated for the Wine Society Young Winemaker of the Year.

Glenn is understandably thrilled with the further recognition that has come with The Big Red Wine Book accolade: ‘Campbell and Gary are such a knowledgeable and respected wine writers, we are honoured to receive such glowing praise from them.’

‘At Starvedog Lane we take pride in the quality of all our wines from the Adelaide Hills, but the success of our Shiraz Viognier blend has been outstanding. It’s great to see our aim to produce wines showing all the attributes of the Adelaide Hills with complexity and great personality is being recognised and rewarded.’

The 2007 Starvedog Lane Shiraz Viognier will be released in June at an RRP of $26.00.
