A regular report on the state of the world wine market.

Results presented on the occasion of the CST and COMEX of the OIV in Paris on 16 and 17 October 2006 respectively, these results should therefore be considered by the reader as merely indicative and subject to significant variations.

Summary
• Continuing decline in vine acreages in the EU. Continental vine acreage should thus continue to erode in 2006 more significantly than in 2005.
• Vineyard planting rates in the Southern Hemisphere have slowed down on the whole.
• It seems that the future developments of wine vineyards in China will largely determine the direction of development of world vineyards in 2006. Recently this vineyard acreage has grown, but the growth rate is apparently slowing.
