Deepak Roy to export wines to Canada and South America

Just when Vijay Mallya-led UB group announced its plans to export Indian wines to France, the UK and New Zealand, a first timer in the business of Indian wines too has revealed plans to export wines made in Maharashtra to overseas markets. Deepak Roy, the one-time blue eyed boy of Vijay Mallya who a couple of years ago was expected to lead the combined spirit business of the UB Group. The wines from Mr Roy’s company Vallee de Vins will be priced Rs 550 and above. Zampa is the name of the first brand by Vallee de Vin.

EU to Lodge WTO Complaint Against India’s Wine, Spirit Tariffs

The European Union will complain to the World Trade Organization that Indian tariffs on alcohol are illegal, seeking to expand exports for EU producers such as Diageo Plc and Pernod Ricard SA.

Société du Louvre announces sale of Bouvet-Ladubay to United Breweries

Société du Louvre S.A.S. (“SDL”), an indirect affiliate of Starwood Capital Group LLC (“Starwood Capital”) announced today that it signed a definitive agreement to sell Bouvet-Ladubay, the leading Saumur sparkling wine company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Taittinger CCVC, to United Breweries of India, the world’s third largest spirit and beer group.

Wine Evolution, Paris January 2006: Interview with Rajeev Samant - The market for wine in India

The 7th Wine Evolution conference (www.wineevolution.com) took place in Paris at the end of January and Wine Industry Report was there. The conference gave the assembled participants from around the world the chance to discuss the latest market trends and it was an ideal venue for networking. Fabian Cobb spoke to a number of the speakers at the Symposium and will be podcasting these short interviews over the next week.

Rajeev Samant is the Managing Director of Sula Soma Wines Ltd in Mumbai India. He gave a very interesting account of the size of the market in India and the prospects for growth. We asked him about his company and how he saw the wine market in India developing over the next few years.

IFOWS - India International Food and Wine Show

[ New Delhi, Thursday, 19 January, 2006 to Saturday, 21 January, 2006 ]

Around 25 French firms will be present at the fourth edition of IFOWS,international exhibition on specialty foods and drinks. France will have two pavilions : one national organized by SOPEXA with 17 firms and one specific to Languedoc-Roussillon wines with 8 firms. A delegation of Languedoc-Roussillon is also expected.

Vinitaly will also be part of the India International Food and Wine show (IFOWS). Before the Delhi chapter Vinitaly will make a stopover at Mumbai on the 17th. The wine extravaganza will play host to top Italian brands like Gaja, Michele Chiarlo, Masi, Alios Lageder amongst 50 others. ‘‘These include 18 members of the Grandi Marchi Institute of fine Italian wines, one of the most reputed institutes of wine making in Italy,’’ Rafaelle Langella, commercial counsellor, Italian embassy adds.
