Prosecco D.O.C. di Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Consortium reveals agents need at least two different Proseccos

At a masterclass led by Peter McCombie MW during the first ever major UK tasting of Prosecco DOC organised by the Prosecco DOC di Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Consortium at the IOD on Monday 15th October, it was revealed that research and tastings conducted independently by both himself and renowned sommelier and Group Wine Buyer for Hakkasan Restaurant Christine Parkinson confirmed that agents and on and off trade outlets should be offering their customers at least two different Proseccos on their lists – one to be used as a mixer for the extremely popular Bellini cocktail, and one that is meant to be appreciated on its own, either as an aperitif or with food.

UST’s Ste. Michelle Wine Estates subsidiary and Antinori reach agreement to acquire Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars

UST Inc. (NYSE: UST) announced recently that its Ste. Michelle Wine Estates subsidiary (SMWE) will hold a majority interest in a joint venture with Marchesi Antinori to acquire Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and its famed Napa Valley, California, vineyards for a total purchase price of $185 million. The deal is expected to be completed in September.

Wines from Italy — Vinitaly China 2006 to open at the end of November

Shanghai International Exhibition Co., Ltd. announced that as a part of 2006 “the Year of Italy in China,” Vinitaly China 2006 is scheduled to open from November 23 to 25 at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. Co-organized by VeronaFiere, Fiere di Parma and Shanghai International Exhibition Co., Ltd (SIEC), Vinitaly China 2006 aims to promote Italian wine culture and speciality foods. Over 100 Italian and international wineries will meet in Shanghai to showcase their quality produce. Mr. Paolo De Castro, Minister of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture will address the opening ceremony with a speech entitled “Sino-Italian Cooperation.”

From Saturday, 16th till Monday 18th of September, the pleasant town of Rodengo Saiano will be the scenario of the Franciacorta Festival, now at its seventh edition.

The Festival is organised by the Consorzio per la tutela del Franciacorta, with the support of the Agriculture Dept. of the Lombardia Region and Chamber of Commerce of Brescia on the occasion of the grape harvest.
