WOSA’s diversity positioning to be extended

The news comes on the back of rising exports, with South Africa once again reporting a growth in sales volumes after a temporary setback last year, when sales dipped 5%. For the 12 months to September 2007, total wine export volumes were up 9%, she said, with the industry diversifying its exports into new markets and achieving significant success in Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Canada.

Distell toughs it out with top results

Responsible pricing and marketing, as well as improved efficiencies enabled Distell to more than meet the demands of a tough market, comfortably growing revenue ahead of higher volumes. For the six months to December 31, 2006, the company succeeded in lifting revenue 16,6% to R4,3bn on a sales volume increase of 11,0%.

Jannie Mouton, chairperson of the PSG Group, joins KWV Ltd’s Board of Directors on 31 January 2007. PSG currently holds 14% of KWV’s issued shares through its agribusiness investment company, Zeder. Mouton is also the chairperson of Zeder, which listed on the JSE in December 2006.

Agreement sees Distell become exclusive supplier of SA wines in key European growth markets

Distell is to become the exclusive South African wine supplier to the Altia Corporation, an international multi-beverage company that operates in the Nordic states, where it is the market leader, as well as in the emergent Baltic markets. Both regions in Europe continue to reflect robust demand for South African wines, despite the fall-off in some markets such as the UK and Holland, according to statistics for the 12 months to October 2006, released by SA Wine Industry Systems (SAWIS).
